Dr Sarah Wollaston MP visit to Totnes

MP on target with Army Cadets

Totnes MP Dr Sarah Wollaston tried her hand at target shooting on a visit to Totnes detachment, D Company.
Dr Wollaston was accompanied by Captain Eric Dancer the Lord Lieutenant of Devon and Colonel Ashley Fulford of Devon ACF.

Dr Wollaston and The Lord Lieutenant fired at a five-bull target, their scores however were kept a closely guarded secret.

During the visit they met cadets who demonstrated field cooking and first aid. They were also given a presentation on the opportunities the cadets have with the Duke Of Edinburgh Award, sports and other military skills.

At the end of the evening six of the cadets were presented with first aid awards following a recent intensive first aid course.

The V.I.Ps closed the visit by praising the cadet’s efforts and thanked them for their hospitality.

Brixham visit Police Headquaters

On Tuesday 1st March 2012 members of Brixham’s detachment were given the opportunity to get up close to the Police helicopter.
Members of the Air Operations Unit from Devon and Cornwall Police were on hand to give a guided tour to the cadets who came over as part of their citizenship training.
They were able to ask questions to the Police Air Observers as well as the aircraft pilot who gave a presentation covering the capabilities of “Oscar 99″.

All of those who went thoroughly enjoyed themselves even if they weren’t able to have a ride.

W.S.I Richardson said, “It was a very positive experience for all who were involved and it was a great opportunity for them to see in person what is normally thousands of feet in the air above.”

Merry Christmas!

Before 2011 soon disappears into memory we reflect on what has been another exceptional year of adventure and acheivement here at D Company Devon A.C.F
During the year we have welcomed many new cadets into our detachments across South West Devon and sadly said goodbye to some very talented individuals as they go on to adulthood. We hope that they take with them the same skill, dedication and sense of pride that has helped them achieve all that they have with us.
We wish them well in pursuing their own adventures in life and look forward to a New Year of excellence.

On behalf of everyone at D Company we wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year

Imperial War Museum

Newton Abbot Detachment visit to the Imperial War Museum
Saturday 10TH December 2011

01

After an early start, the senior cadets of Newton Abbot’s detachment were taken to London to visit the Imperial War Museum. This marks an end to what has been an exceptionally busy year and was a chance for the cadets and adults to let their hair down and take in the sights of the museum.
Perhaps most poignant was the holocaust exhibition where each cadet that took part learnt how actions abroad can impact heavily on the world.

Despite the long journey involving repeated stops at various service stations, they still had enough energy to go shopping.

The detachment commander said, “It was a really excellent day, it went well. Me and the kids had a great time.”

The trip away was a thank you from the adult staff to their seniors who had continued to push themselves and those junior to them in achieving some excellent results over the last year.

With funding for the trip coming from D Company, the cadets were able to go to London and visit the museum for free.
